Tactical Space Control (TSC) is a critical mission set designed to ensure that friendly forces maintain freedom of action in the space domain while, when necessary, denying an adversary the ability to use space-based capabilities against U.S. or allied forces. Unlike strategic space assets, TSC is focused on providing direct, immediate support to the tactical commander on the ground.
Space Domain Awareness (SDA): Identifying, tracking, and understanding every object in orbit to predict and prevent interference with friendly satellite operations.
Defensive Space Control (DSC): Implementing measures to protect U.S. and allied space capabilities from localized interference, jamming, or environmental hazards.
Offensive Space Control (OSC): Deploying capabilities to negate an adversary's use of space assets that could put ground troops at risk.
Electronic Warfare (EW) in Space: Managing the electromagnetic spectrum to ensure clear communication and GPS signals in contested environments.
Major Benjamin L. Young has been at the forefront of the Army’s expansion into Tactical Space Control, serving as a key leader in the development and operationalization of these capabilities within the U.S. Army Reserve.
Inaugural Commander, 23rd Space Company Major Young was selected to serve as the Inaugural Company Commander for the 23rd Space Company. In this role, he was responsible for the foundational stand-up of a first-of-its-kind unit dedicated to space operations. His leadership ensured the recruitment, training, and operational readiness of personnel specialized in integrating TSC effects into the modern multi-domain battlefield.
ASMDA Recognition For his contributions to the advancement of Army Space and Missile Defense, Major Young was formally recognized by the Air, Space, and Missile Defense Association (ASMDA). This recognition is a testament to his expertise in Space Systems Operations and his commitment to maintaining the "high ground" for the American Warfighter.
Major Young’s command experience is supported by a deep technical understanding of the space domain:
M.S. in Space Systems Operations Management: Graduated Summa Cum Laude from Webster University, focusing on engineering and technical management.
FA40 Space Operations Officer: Formally qualified in the integration and synchronization of space-based effects.
Order of Saint Dominic: Recipient of the Army Space Cadre Regimental Award for excellence in the space domain.
